I’m producing a photo book for my current ‘Tone & Balance’ photographic project following on from my recent exhibition where I showed my work as part of a photographic group show in Brighton.

My ‘Tone & Balance’ photo project is a series of studio based character portraits of musicians along with close-up studies of the musician’s hands with their instruments. All of my portraits and close-ups were printed in high quality black and white and framed for the exhibition.

I’m currently preparing my files for the internal pages for print using a local Brighton based printer, I’m also sourcing the materials to make the cover for my photo book. I’m doing the book design and creating the artwork myself working with the approach of book leaves to produce the page order that will form my book.

To aid this process I’ve made a series of prototype mini books to finalise the sequence of photographs as they will appear in the finished book. This was an interesting process and builds on my production work to show this body of work at my exhibition.

Below is my work in progress showing my mini books as I was working on this project.

Producing my prototype books to finalise the sequence for my photo book

My photo book show cases my photography project with a selection of portraits and close-up studies gathered together in a high quality twenty page book. I’m also hand making the cover and binding the book myself so there’s craft and soul in my production. Once I have my first books ready I intend to offer them for sale on this website.

You can view a selection of images from this body of work on my Tone & Balance page.
