Freelance Lead UX/UI Product Designer
My professional product design work improves user engagement and focuses on usability and accessibility. I evaluate, create and implement user focused UX design strategy, design systems and style guides.
I have nineteen years of professional product design industry experience which I bring to my design projects. My UX/UI product design work covers all areas of the user centred, end-to-end design process including design concepts, user flows, journey mapping, wireframes, Figma prototypes and user testing.
My UX/UI Design Process
Following requirements gathering and stakeholder engagement to establish the goals of the business, user flows and wireframes are produced to begin the design process. I then work in close collaboration with stakeholders, development and test teams to produce early designs which can be quickly adapted to create interactive Figma prototypes.
I use an iterative design process to build Figma prototypes which can be usability tested, early designs can be tested internally for initial feedback. Following any design changes formal user testing and evaluation with end-users can then be conducted to gain further user feedback.
This process takes place before any coding starts which saves time and money resulting in viable design solutions which are produced at pace.
I create responsive designs to work across platforms and devices to produce inclusive, accessible and usable software solutions for digital SaaS products. I work with stakeholders and clients to design, produce and launch effective design solutions that match users, business and system requirements.
Design Systems
I’m experienced in creating, implementing and managing design systems working with marketing and development teams to produce a consistent brand look and feel. Reusable components and design patterns aid efficient product production and give a consistent user experience for customers.
My design system component production and management includes building a design system from scratch. I’ve also developed a design system from styles guides and authored design system governance documentation for multi team use.
Design systems can help to speed the process of global brand implementation and styling changes across multiple websites quickly and effectively. Design systems also support the process of quickly bringing new products to market.
Design Leadership
I have product design team lead experience working across multiple projects in an agile environment. I work with remote, in-house and external design teams using Figjam and Miro for cross team collaboration, discovery and ideation sessions.
I’ve worked with design and marketing teams throughout my career and I always strive to bring teams together with good communication. My design management experience includes design team member mentoring, coaching and line management. I have design recruitment experience should you need to build or expand your design team.
My design lead experience includes in-person design workshop and ideation session delivery, I also have experience of design concept presentations to clients, stakeholders, focus groups, internal and external teams.
Design Style Guides
My design experience includes bringing existing UI design together to establish a design house style where no company design guides exist. A design style guide helps to formalise a brand and implement design accessibility standards with internal teams.
I’ve authored brand guidelines to refresh product design across platforms for group websites and apps. Writing style guides to bring brand design to a formal and usable guide can go on to form the basis for a new design system.
User Testing
My hands-on user testing experience includes writing interview scripts and running user testing sessions using interactive Figma prototypes with external candidates. Following user feedback the high fidelity Figma prototypes can be adjusted as required and re-tested if needed.
User testing gives an invaluable and objective view of product designs based on real world feedback. On completion of the user testing sessions user data is collation and a report is produced for presentation with stakeholder and team feedback sessions.
User tested prototypes for new features, websites and apps can then be handed to development teams as final designs. With continuing design support these files can be built into fully responsive websites and native apps.
I believe that real end-user feedback is a crucial step and one of the most important elements in the iterative product design life cycle.
Accessibility and Usability
I advocate accessibility and usability to increase user engagement and to build inclusive digital products. My design work adheres to WCAG 2.0 standards for accessibility and I work with clients to improve their website and app accessibility.
I offer UI/UX design audits to improve website and app user experience, this includes accessibilty reviews with actionable reports. The resulting design improvements in turn help to increase user engagement and conversions with the target audience.
Design Audits
My design audits assess and evaluating websites and apps usability and accessibility, this process can be part of an update or brand refresh project if a product needs a new look and feel. I also review content, SEO and images for a balanced review of a digital product range, e-commerce system, native app or brochure website.
Following a design audit I provide a full report with actionable design options, I can support a design team with the re-build or re-design process if required.

WordPress Web Design
I have strong experience in WordPress design and development having worked on a wide range of websites using WordPress. I’ve worked with WordPress from the early days and I still enjoy working with this website system.
My WordPress design and build experience includes design re-fresh concepts and custom themes with hand coding. I use my advanced WordPress skills to create custom branded, user friendly, responsive websites for clients and SMEs. I also have experience using other advanced and custom CMS systems for website and app content management.
